While initial The Boogeyman movie updates stated that the film would release via Hulu, The Boogeyman will be given a theatrical debut, and will premiere in theaters on June 2nd, 2023.

The film contains scary elements centered around the terrifying nature of the titular creature, including stalking, attacking, and killing its prey. While the film's language is relatively tame, it includes scenes with violence and intense brutality that are not suitable for younger children.

High school student Sadie Harper and her younger sister, Sawyer, are still reeling from the recent death of their mother. They're not getting much support from their father, Will, a therapist who's dealing with his own intense pain. When a desperate patient unexpectedly shows up at their house seeking help, he leaves behind a terrifying supernatural entity that preys on families and feeds on the suffering of its victims.

After a few violent attacks, Sadie and Sawyer set fire to the terrifying creature. Seemingly dead, the house also catches fire, but Sadie and her family are able to make it outside to safety. Sadie and Sawyer return to therapy, and Will finally talks about his grief.

The Boogeyman was theatrically released in the United States by 20th Century Studios on June 2, 2023. The film received mixed reviews from critics and has grossed $82 million worldwide.

Most kills come down to a gunshot and some blood-mist, but since the action is so fast, the camera often just moves off the body. Language wise, a fair amount of f-bombs, but nothing your kids haven't heard before. I would say that John Wick is appropriate for kids 14 and up.

The production design and special effects in The Boogeyman are decent but cannot salvage the movie's overall poor quality. The editing suffers from sloppiness, resulting in disjointed and poorly paced scenes.

The boogeyman is not real, but most cultures have some version of the boogeyman myth, although they go by many, many different names. The actual "boogeyman" name most likely originated sometime in the 19th century, but the mythology of these kinds of "monsters" have been around for much longer than that.

Eventually, the monster is defeated, and Will, Sadie and Sawyer escape their house, which is now engulfed by flames. We next see the family at the office of psychiatrist Dr Weller, who Sadie and Sawyer had been meeting throughout the movie to help with the loss of their mother.
