What GPA is honors at CFISD? ›

Honor Graduate Designation

At graduation ceremonies, graduates will be recognized in the following categories: summa cum laude (6.5 G.P.A.), magna cum laude (6.25 G.P.A.), and cum laude (6.0 G.P.A.).

CFISD uses a weighted 6.0 grading scale.

K-level classes have a more rigorous and in-depth content focus than on-level classes. Classes often move at a faster pace, include different types of assignments, and require additional outside reading.

Click on Parent Portal Login icon and enter your CFISD parent portal username and password. Once signed in select the "Home Access Center" icon. Choose the "School Links" tab. Choose the "State Test Results Access" link.

A GPA of at least 3.9 earns the honor of summa cum laude (meaning, with highest honors), a GPA of at least 3.7 and less than 3.9 earns magna cum laude (with high honors), and a GPA of at least 3.5 and less than 3.7 earns cum laude (with honors).

K–8 schools, elementary-middle schools, or K–8 centers are schools in the United States that enroll students from kindergarten/pre-K (age 5–6) to 8th grade (up to age 14), combining the typical elementary school (K–5/6) and junior high or middle school (6/7–8).

In BPS, we use the term K2 instead of kindergarten, referring to our five-year-old students. Focus on K2 was written to help teachers promote children's creativity and their abilities to collaborate, communicate and think critically. It was written to develop essential literacy and numeracy skills.

By visiting their school district's family portal or TexasAssessment.gov using the unique access code provided by their child's school, parents can access their child's STAAR 3-8 results.

STAAR Tests at a Glance

Texas public school students take the STAAR tests in grades 3-8 and high school. STAAR tests are aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) learning standards. These Texas state standards define what Texas students should learn in every grade.

The three honors and their average required GPAs on a 4.0 scale include: Summa cum laude: 3.9-4.0 GPA. Magna cum laude: 3.7-3.8 GPA. Cum laude: 3.5-3.6 GPA.

In many high schools, a regular class might carry a weight of 4.0 for an A, whereas an honors class might carry a weight of 4.5 or sometimes even 5.0 for an A, depending on the school's specific weighting system.

Typically, students receive honors on their degree when they have at least a 3.5 GPA. Along with satisfying GPA requirements, students may need to be enrolled in a full-time capacity.
